Royal Preston Hospital – Combined Heat and Power Installation

BES are currently working at The Royal Preston Hospital installing a New Combined Heating and Power facility within the existing hospital infrastructure.

The overall project includes the installation of a New Gas Fired Engine and Generating set to provide an additional 1.8 MWe of electrical power to the hospital. In addition to the electrical power supplied by the engine the exhaust gases are being utilised by passing them through a New Reheat Boiler to provide additional steam to the hospitals main heating system.  The secondary engine cooling water is also utilised to inject additional heat into the Primary LPHW & DHW services in a number of satellite plantrooms.

The project has recently taken delivery of the main components for the scheme with the delivery of the Jenbacher engine and generator with a combined weight of 27 ton which was positioned within the new acoustic enclosure and more recently we have taken delivery of the new waste heat boiler which proved to be a very snug fit alongside the existing steam boilers.

The project is on programme to start providing heating and electrical power to the hospital in September 2009.
