This has been an extremely challenging project, and by working in partnership with BES, we have delivered a modern, forward-looking warehousing and packing facility to programme and cost with no unplanned business interruption and an excellent safety performance. For now and the foreseeable future, this facility will benefit patients all over the world who depend on AstraZeneca’s life-changing medicines.

From the outset, the BES team understood our commercial and operational requirements and worked with us to design and programme the project around those needs.

The company’s experience in the pharmaceutical industry makes them ideally placed to deliver complex projects like this for the gene cell therapy sector. Their multi-disciplinary team not only worked collaboratively with us, but seamlessly with each other, for a joined-up and efficient approach. This was particularly important during a period when we are involved in development and manufacturing work of international importance for COVID-19 response. It’s extraordinary that, despite the challenges of the lockdown, BES has completed the project to such a high standard.

CSA Catapult will play a crucial part in the global adoption of compound semiconductor technology, and the work that BES has completed for us will help us on that journey. Our open plan office space, along with our state-of-the-art laboratories, were executed by BES with our vision and capabilities in mind. Our new Innovation Centre, now open for business, will allow us to be at the heart of compound semiconductor collaboration and we are thrilled to be able to welcome visitors and partners into our new home.

Indivior originally selected BES through a competitive tender process where BES were the most competitive in terms of both price and delivery timeline. Immediately following the awarding of the contract to BES, we started on a very collaborative journey together through the macro design, detailed design and construction phases of the facility. We have dealt with both opportunities and challenges in a transparent way, seeking optimal solutions for both parties without conflict or politics and have yet to resort to the contract to resolve any issues. On the back of the strong collaborative relationship and good project management, the facility was delivered on cost, and 3 months ahead of schedule. The quality of the workmanship and cleanliness of the site during construction has been above expectation.

We commissioned BES to help us with the feasibility of repurposing a building to accommodate R&D laboratories and cGMP facilities for the manufacture of our proprietary drug-in-adhesive patches.It was a pleasure to partner with BES who understood the constraints of a small early stage company, and who were able to use their expertise to find practical solutions to the design challenges. The quality of the interaction and the documentation provided was excellent.

BES exceeded our expectations during the R&D facility project and we have been impressed once again by the niche expertise within the business and the attention to detail across the team. They have considered operational factors such as the height of different operatives and how that will affect their field of vision from the production facility floor. Our investment in this facility is a vital part of our continuity planning and we are looking forward to seeing it become operational next year.

The new cleanroom is now running as a multi-product facility and is sure to bring us increased efficiency and reduced manufacturing costs in the future,

In a fast-moving sector like ours, it’s not unusual for commercial and operational requirements to change after a project has already begun. In this instance, we needed a design and construction team who would work with us to get the revised scope across the line in time for the commissioning window in December.

BES’s collaborative approach, multi-disciplinary team and ability to think creatively and practically to overcome project challenges meant we were able to hit the deadline without any risk to business continuity or quality.
