Construction Planner

Job Purpose:

The Construction Planner is responsible for developing, monitoring, and updating project schedules to ensure timely delivery of construction projects. This role involves close collaboration with project managers, engineers, and site teams to coordinate resources, manage risks, and maintain project timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed construction programmes using planning software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
  • Monitor project progress and update schedules accordingly.
  • Identify critical path activities and potential delays; propose mitigation strategies.
  • Lead and facilitate Plan-Do-Review (PDR) meetings to drive project performance, ensure accountability, and promote continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and liaise directly with the Client to communicate programme status, address concerns, and align expectations.
  • Prepare and present progress reports, look-ahead schedules, and delay analyses.
  • Support tender planning and bid submissions with programme input.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in planning.
  • Maintain accurate records of planning documentation and revisions.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a planning role within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject, or MS Project.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, sequencing, and methodologies.
  • Experience with NEC, JCT, or other standard forms of contract (desirable).

  • Membership of a professional body (e.g., APM, CIOB).
  • Experience in infrastructure, commercial, or residential construction projects.
  • Knowledge of BIM and digital construction tools.
