After an incredible 51 years in the building services industry, we’re saying a fond farewell to John Standring as he begins a well-earned retirement. John’s career began in August 1974 at S.B. Booth & Co., a small company specialising in dust extraction. From there, he moved on to Hall & Kay Ltd, a major firm based in Ashton-under-Lyne, before going on to deliver projects both in the UK and overseas.

BES is proud to have played a key supporting role in the delivery of the latest phase of a major energy efficiency upgrade for a leading UK pharmaceutical manufacturing campus. Working in collaboration with our parent company, BGEN, we contributed to Phase 2 of the Macclesfield Efficient Energy Project (MEEP), designed to enhance the site's energy resilience, sustainability, and operational performance.
Paul Marsh explains that though this has always been a factor, “the industry changed through the pandemic”. Medicines now need to be delivered faster than ever. “Primarily we operate in pharmaceutical, biotech and healthcare sectors,” Marsh says. “Although I guess all sectors want results in shorter timescales than ever before for many reasons. But for many of our clients, the pressures of getting a product to production or critical operations functional speed is paramount and highly demanding.”

BES, the specialist in design and construction of technically complex environments for pharmaceutical, healthcare and advanced scientific sectors, has completed phase one of new clean room and manufacturing facilities for Terumo Aortic (Vascutek Ltd). The project combined production and assembly in one new single plant and is part of a £50 million investment at the Glasgow HQ and manufacturing site of the UK subsidiary of Tokyo’s Terumo Corporation.
